Maricá Basic Income Project
This interdisciplinary research project evaluates the impacts of unconditional monthly cash payments to citizens of Maricá, Brazil. The visual identity and corresponding bilingual website were developed to balance intellectual rigor with public accessibility, creating a platform that speaks to multiple audiences. The visual system centers on movement and circulation—a rotating logo and dynamic graphic elements visualize the concept of the circular solidarity economy, where basic income recipients reinvest in their local communities. Photographs of Maricá weave throughout the site, grounding the research in the lived experience of the city’s residents and creating meaningful texture.
The bilingual logo emblem—which rotates continuously on the website to suggest economic circulation—draws inspiration from Maricá's municipal flag, reinterpreting its four diagonal stars into a dynamic symbol that represents the cyclical flow of resources within the community.
Both typefaces of the identity—Pollen and Guanabara Sans—were created by Brazilian designers, reinforcing the project’s cultural context and the cross-disciplinary nature of the study. These typographic choices, combined with a color palette and graphic elements inspired by the coastal city itself, creates a digital experience that feels academically credible and distinctly Brazilian.
